Stockholm,24.04.2012 10th ERTMS World Conference 2012 Representatives of Swiss Railway Engineering division of SRE GmbH participated in the 10th ERTMS World Conference 2012, which included over 600 rail signalling leaders and experts from around the world. The conference included a technical visit to the Västerdalsbanen in central Sweden to view the first commercial ERTMS Level 3 application in the world, which was commissioned in February 2012. Through its highly integrated architecture and use of state-of-the-art IT technologies, this ERTMS Level 3 application represents a revolution toward low-cost signalling applications while guaranteeing reliable and efficient railway operations. Swiss Railway Engineering experts have been closely following the development of ERTMS Level 3 and its application in Sweden since 1997. Further highlights at the conference included an excellent talk on the current state of ERTMS in Europe given by Libor Lochman, Executive Director of CER, and former member of the Euro-Interlocking Core Team founded and led by Niklaus H. König, now Director of Swiss Railway Engineering and CEO of SRE GmbH.
Frankfurt/Zurich,17.01.2012 Swiss Railway Engineering joins the “ITEA 2 openETCS” project The Swiss Railway Engineering division of SRE GmbH has joined the “ITEA 2 openETCS” project, thus being the first company from Switzerland in this important project. To date, over 30 organisations, including railways, suppliers, consulting companies and universities from across Europe, have joined openETCS. The project aims at the reduction of costs for the ETCS on-board unit (OBU) through system standardisation via the development of a “formal” version of the OBU SRS, through open-source software for the OBU and by the application of a standardised tool set for the validation and verification of the OBU software. Through its expertise in the area of formal requirements and system specification development, SRE will support the openETCS project in these areas.
